About the Music Programme Music Sounds "All the music reflects the wide interests of the Bournemouth Natural Science Society." "The Planets by Holst is for the Society’s Astronomy Section, whilst Fingal's Cave with its columns of basalt will satisfy the geologists. All manner of fauna will be celebrated with such pieces as The Thieving Magpie (Rossini), The Elephant (Saint-Saëns), The Flight of the Bumblebee (Rimsky Korsakov), and Moths and Butterflies (Elgar). The plant world is evoked by Vivaldi’s Summer from The Four Seasons and In the Steppes of the Central Russia by Borodin. This latter may also be claimed by the Geography Section, but they also have the physical aspect represented by the Storm movement from Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony and the topographical aspect portrayed in Purbeck Pastorale by local composer Lionel Simpson." "The Science Section in searching underground for neutrinos would find trolls a surprise entering The Hall of the Mountain King." "In other words a programme with something for everyone." John Cresswell BNSS The orchestra welcomes
new players Strings incl. Violas and Cellists.
