Press Release -18th May, 2006

WORKSHOP JULY 14th 2006
at St Ambrose Church, West Cliff Road, Westbourne 7.30-9.45pm

For the fourth year running the Westbourne Orchestra is to hold an evening Workshop where instrumentalists who need not have had any previous orchestral experience are invited to come along and play with the Orchestra.

We will be studying a short programme of not too technically demanding but melodic music, which has not been previously rehearsed by the orchestra, in order to present and perform a free of charge 30-minute concert.  In previous years approximately fifteen members of the public (ages 12 – 75) took up the challenge and enjoyed themselves.  On each occasion 2 or 3 people subsequently joined the Orchestra.   We hope that this year we shall be equally successful.

The music to be studied has been selected by Deputy Conductor Dave Brooks and will include Tschaikowsky – SWAN LAKE Suite from the ballet 1 Scene 2 Valse 3, Danse des Cygnes 4 Scene 5 Danse Hongroise 6 Scene. If time and/or circumstances permit, Suite THE THREE ELIZABETHS – Eric Coates 1 Elizabeth Tudor 2 Elizabeth of Glamis 3 Queen Elizabeth.

The objectives of the evening are:
1) Simply to enjoy the experience and
2) To see if you could at some time in the future become a member of the orchestra.

If you are interested in dusting down that half forgotten instrument stored in the cupboard and would like to attend the workshop will you please apply to Tricia Davis Telephone 01202 513971 or Email: modernmother@mac.comfor a Registration Form. Alternatively, contact any other member of the Orchestra.

There is a registration fee of £3.00 to cover hire of music.

Members of the public are invited to attend the Workshop, the Concert and the American Buffet/discussion, which concludes the evening.

Entrance is free of charge and attendees can stay for the whole evening or just for a short time. There is to be a retiring collection and the proceeds are to go to the Royal National Life Boat Institution.
