Patrick Davies is a dynamic and versatile musician based in London. Busy as a clarinettist in the recital hall and the concert hall, Patrick is also a highly experienced multi-instrumentalist, playing a wide range of woodwind instruments including saxophones, flutes and recorders, and stretching as far as blues harmonica and traditional Chinese bamboo flutes. His ambition is to forge a freelance career offering as much musical variety as possible.
Whether in the opera pit, on the recital platform or in the recording studio, Patrick brings to his music passion, excitement, and a joy of exploration that has taken him from the classical cannon, through jazz and blues idioms to world folk traditions, improvisation, and composition. Patrick lives in London, and is currently studying for his Masters in Music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where his experiences have included concerts and rehearsals with the London Symphony Orchestra, broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, a production with the Shanghai Opera House on tour, and regular orchestral, opera and chamber performances within the Guildhall School itself. Outside his studies, Patrick has recently performed with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, London Mahler Orchestra, Ilyrian Ensemble and other groups in the capital. Patrick is also a keen and dedicated teacher.
Patrick grew up in Bournemouth and developed his love of music performing with a number of local ensembles, including Dorset Youth Orchestra and Bournemouth Youth Orchestra, Christchurch Recorder Consort and Corpus Christi Boys’ Choir. He studied music at the University of Manchester, from which he graduated with honours, specialising in performance and composition. Concerto appearances have included Stanford’s Clarinet Concerto with the Innovaris Orchestra, Weber’s Second Clarinet Concerto with the Bournemouth Youth Orchestra, and Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the Leighton Buzzard Sinfonia.
